Help clear the restoration ponds in Kawainui on Sat. July 6, 2013

Join the State Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DoFaW) on July 6, 2013 from 9 am to 12 pm for the Second Monthly Kawainui Volunteer Day. Support some of Hawaii’s most endangered waterbirds! Contribute to the success of the new Restoration Ponds. Learn about the current restoration projects in Kawainui firsthand. Ahahui volunteers are encouraged to pitch in.

We have a pond choked with filamentous algae that we will scoop up/clean. Weed whackers will be available, if we have people so inclined.  There are always cattails to be pulled in the ponds.

We do have Coot chicks in the area, so the length of time might be a bit short.

So, be prepared to walk in the ponds and we’ll rinse off afterwards.  Bring rubber boots/shoes that can get wet and muddy, work gloves, sunscreen, dry clothes and water.

Directions: The restoration ponds are behind (below) Castle Medical Center in Kailua. Drive to the end of Ulukahiki Street and then through the DOFAW Kawainui support facilities to the end of the road where there will be volunteer parking.
