Join us on our annual Native Plants of Kawainui Tour, Sat. May 2, 2015

Ahahui Malama i ka Lokahi and the Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club are conducting a Native Plants of Kawainui Tour on May 2, 2015. We start at 8:30 am. Mark your calendar. The tour will be led by Rick Barboza of Hui Ku Maoli Ola nursery. We’ll car pool between sites. The tour will visit Ulupo Heiau ethnobotanical restoration site, and Na Pohaku o Hauwahine native forest and wetland restoration site along Kapaa Quarry Road, and for those interested, an optional tour of the Hui Ku Maoli Ola nursery in Haiku. Learn about what native plants exist in the Kailua area of Kawainui, what uses were made of these plants and what is being done to restore Kawainui with more native plants. Donation of $10 is suggested. Casual outdoor wear. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, camera, water. Wear good walking shoes. Tour limited to 25 persons, so sign up early.
